Using the Example of the Word Topic in a Student Essay

Using the Example of the Word Topic in a Student EssayIn English composition, the example of the word topic can be used in a number of ways to help students identify where a particular fact comes from. The term topic is derived from the Latin root verb 'tergiversum' which means 'to touch upon.'As a topic is touched upon in a literary work, a topic point will be more easily recognized and the ability to find it more easily achieved. To identify a topic, the word topic must be used and the topic point must be located on the same page as the topic. When this point is properly identified, students are much more likely to locate it.In addition, the writer should be careful to keep in mind that he/she is not expected to dig out the source of the fact from the context of the sentence. The fact is referred to by the first letter of the topic, usually written in capitals for example, for 'copyrighted topic points.' In cases where the topic must be located in another column, it is easy to reme mber to look for the topic point, then follow that point with the place where the source was located. One other way that students can identify topics is by noticing the grammar and syntax involved in the work. As is the case in English composition, writers of essays should be careful to avoid literary alliteration. It is easy to say 'and then the rain'but then the rain fell.' However, if they continue to use the phrase, 'and then the rain fell' instead of 'and then the rain came,' their paper could be called into question.Writing a thesis statement is the writer's goal in any academic essay. He/she must include as much information as possible without giving away the important details. Infact, it is perfectly acceptable for the writer to omit necessary information or oversimplify a situation. If, however, he/she chooses to give away critical information, the example of the word topic should be followed in the essay to pinpoint the change of detail.Using the example of the word topic, the writer can also make an appeal to authority to support his/her statements. By using the word 'authority' in the phrase 'authority 'opinion,' the writer is saying that he/she can 'follow the authority 'follow the opinion' in support of his/her opinion.Writing an essay does not mean that the writer is required to produce an opinion. In fact, most students who engage in essays are not actually seeking to produce an opinion. In most cases, they are writing because they have a personal interest or hobby and they want to express this in written form. The examples of the word topic, when used in the subject matter of a composition, can help to identify the ideas in the piece. For this reason, essay writers should always pay attention to this word when it appears in the composition.
